Hariyali teej falls on the 3rd lunar day of Krishna Paksha of the sawan month. The pure and holy festival is a delight to watch. The season becomes beautiful with women dancing and singing, celebrations, swings and greenery all around. This time the festival is on 5th August, 2016. The ritual is to worship Goddess Gauri and Lord Shiva.
History –
Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati married each other on this day. It is said that Lord Shiva accepted Goddess Parvati as his wife after a long period of hardship done by Goddess Parvati in the month of sawan.
Goddess Parvati took 108 births to attain Lord Shiva as her husband. In the month of Shravana, Shukla paksha, Goddess Parvati in her 108th birth was able to make Lord Shiva happy. This is why the day is celebrated as Hariyali Teez.
Importance –
The festival is special due to two reasons. First on Hariyali Teej, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati married each other and second, the season has its own beauty which is enhanced by this festival.
Natives of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh celebrate Hariyali Teej as Karva Chauth only. Women are subjected to wear green clothes and green bangles with heavy jewelry. Women observe fast and worship Goddess Parvati for their husband’s longevity.

The legend of Hariyali Teej is very important for women. Women should keep in mind their husband and pray for their long life while listening the story.
